I work with a number of clients who struggle with catastrophic thinking, and I know the first go-to strategy for dealing with it is to do more thinking - to try and rationalise one's way out of it or strategise all sorts of ways out of the perceived threat. Something like..."If I think about this enough, then I'll work out some way for the disaster to not happen!"
But, there is a way out that doesn't end up in a dead end...
